Everyone at Hereford FC is saddened to hear of the passing of Hereford United legend and Giant Killing goalkeeper, Fred Potter, at the age of 83.

Potter joined the Bulls in September 1970 under manager John Charles, making 33 league appearances in 1970-71, with a further 27 in various cup competitions.

Fred then went on to be the goalkeeper in the Bulls’ famous FA Cup run of 1972, helping his team defeat First Division Newcastle United in a Third Round replay.

While Ronnie Radford and Ricky George wrote their names in FA Cup folklore with their goals, Potter’s 38 clean sheets that season saw him named Hereford United’s Player of the Year at the end of that memorable campaign.

The thoughts of everyone at the club are with Fred’s wife, Margaret, and all his family and friends at this difficult time.

The Giant Killers visit Edgar Street to mark the 50 year anniversary of the Newcastle win.
