Hereford FC are saddened to announce the passing of Hereford United legend Eric Redrobe at the age of 81.

Joining Hereford United in 1972, ‘Big Red’ scored nine goals as the Bulls were promoted in their first season in the Football League. He remained at Edgar Street until the end of Hereford’s successful 1975–76 season, when they won the Third Division.

Eric was a fan favourite at Hereford United and made a return to Edgar Street in 2008, having been invited back as a guest.

Bulls Chairman, Chris Ammonds, said:

“Everyone at Edgar Street has been saddened to hear the news that Eric has passed away.

“After joining Hereford United from Southport in 1972, Eric was a key part of the team for several seasons, contributing a significant number of goals during his time at the club.

“While personally I never had the pleasure of seeing him play, I have heard tales of his ‘all-action’ style and it is clear why he became a firm favourite with supporters and ‘The King of Edgar Street’ according to the Meadow End choir.

“On behalf of everyone associated with Hereford FC, I would like to pass on our condolences to Eric’s family and friends – our thoughts remain with them all at this sad time.”
