The points were shared at Edgar Street as Hereford drew 1-1 with Southport.

After a quiet first half, the away side took the lead in the 69th minute through Danny Lloyd.

Hereford responded well when Yusifu Ceesay equalised soon after.

The draw moves the Bulls up to ninth whilst Southport drop to 17th.

Paul Caddis made five changes to the side that lost to Leamington over two weeks ago with new signings Theo Richardson and DJ Sturridge coming in for their debuts.

Jim Bentley also made five alterations to the team that beat Bamber Bridge in the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy with Nathaniel Knight-Percival returning to the back-line and Danny Philliskirk captaining the side.

The first shot of the game went the way of Hereford when Jaiden White cut inside onto his left foot, he connected with the ball well but his effort was deflected out for a corner.

Southport tested Richardson for the first time three minutes later when Jamie Proctor charged forward with the ball through the midfield but his effort was tipped over by the debutant.

After a quiet start to the game, the first big chance fell to the visitors in the 27th minute when Luke Burgess put Lloyd through on goal but the forward dragged his shot wide of the far post.

Yusifu Ceesay tested the Southport defence 11 minutes later when he went on a driving run, beating a few defenders, but his ball into Ahkeem Rose was intercepted and cleared away.

Hereford kept up the momentum and had their first good chance of the game when a cross into the box from White found the head of Rose but the forward could not guide his effort on target.

That was the final action of the first half meaning it was 0-0 going into the break.

The second 45 got off to a very quiet start with neither side able to break each other down.

On the hour mark, the Bulls had their first promising attack of the half when they made their way into the box, Rose, Sturridge and Tate Campbell all had efforts at goal but they were all blocked by the resolute Southport defence.

The away side took the lead in the 69th minute when they caught Hereford short at the back, the ball was played into Lloyd on the right wing who shifted the ball onto his left foot before placing it past Richardson.

Caddis’ side responded brilliantly as they equalised just four minutes later when the ball bounced up perfectly for Ceesay who connected well with a volley to fire it past Chris Renshaw at his near post.

Hereford pushed hard for a winner but they were unable to find one meaning it finished 1-1.
