Hereford ended their pre-season campaign with a 0-0 draw against Newport County.

The away side had the first big chance of the game in the fourth minute when a cross from the right wing picked out Courtney Baker-Richardson but the striker fired wide from close range.

Paul Caddis’ side responded well and in the 11th minute came close when Cosmos Matwasa got to the ball before the keeper after a poor header back from Shane McLoughlin but the winger could not quite keep it in.

Bobby Kamwa then tested Aaron Chapman with a couple of efforts in the space of three minutes, one from outside of the box which was tipped over and one from inside the area which was saved at the near post.

In the 22nd minute, Hereford had their first decent chance when a long ball forward found the head of Andy Williams, he then flicked it in behind for his striker partner Montel Gibson but his shot was off target.

Just before the half-hour mark Gibson was involved again when Preston Bitemo picked him out inside the box, he turned and connected with the ball well but the shot was straight at Nick Townsend.

Just two minutes later Kamwa was once again in the action when he charged into the box from the left wing and fired a shot off the near post.

The first half fizzled out after that meaning that it was 0-0 going into the break.

There was immediate action from kick-off in the second 45 when a sloppy pass back from Kyle Jameson put Gibson in on goal, the striker then tried to poke the ball through the legs of the keeper but failed to do so.

In the 61st minute, Alex Babos picked out Gibson at the near post from a corner, after sorting his feet out the forward got a shot off but it was deflected out for another corner.

Just over 10 minutes later substitute Yusifu Ceesay beat McLoughlin down the left wing and drilled a dangerous ball into the box which forced a good save out of Townsend.

After 80 minutes Newport came close for the first time in the second half when a ball into the box from Ciaran Brennan found Michael Spellman who flicked it just wide of the post.

A long throw was then put into the box and dropped to Sammy Robinson who connected well with his shot but it was deflected out for a corner.

The final action of the game came from Ceesay who picked up the ball from about 35 yards out, he drove forward and got a shot away but it was saved by Townsend meaning that the game finished 0-0.
