Tuesday 9th April, Hereford FC Women took on Ross Juniors Women in the final of the Herefordshire FA County Cup. The scene was set under the lights at Edgar Street for a thrilling cup final.

The Bullettes started well winning a corner in the first minutes of the game. A cross to the back post wasn’t cleared by Ross Juniors which left Sheree Smith open to slot home the opener.

More pressure from Hereford forced another corner and a chance for the Bullettes to double their lead. A dangerous cross into a good area found the head of Katy Huntbach who nodded past the Ross Juniors ‘keeper.

Hereford kept up the pressure in search for a third. Through their hard work, The Bullettes made it 3 in the 31st minute after Sheree Smith forced an own goal from Ross.

More celebrations came for Hereford with a goal from club captain Sian Bull on the stroke of half time to send the Bullettes in for half time 4 goals to the good.

A slow start to the second half meant Ross Juniors put The Bullettes under a lot of pressure. Hereford needed to sit in and defend for large parts of the game, but under the pressure, Ross Juniors won a freekick in a dangerous area. A well work set-piece brough a goal back to make the score line 4-1

This goal was the wake up call that forces a reaction from Hereford. Good pressure forced another own goal from Ross Juniors before the final whistle.

Head coach Jon Nash added: “I’m so proud of the girls they have worked so hard this year and deserve all the credit. They have bought into what we are trying to do as a club. Every player that came on wore the shirt with pride and passion. I would like to say to Ross for such as young side, they stayed in the game and battled until the end and never gave up and their players are a credit to their club.”

Club captain Sian Bull added: “The girls have worked so hard this season, for such as young side they have been amazing group to lead. A lot of these players have come along way this season, from playing development football to stepping into the women’s game, they have learnt incredibly quick.”
