Hereford fell to a 4-1 defeat away to Scunthorpe.

Tope Obadeyi came off the bench to open the lead with a header in the 38th minute.

The hosts came flying out the blocks in the second half with early goals from Callum Roberts and Maxim Kouogun before Liam McAlinden and Alfie Beestin scored late on to claim all three points.

After the loss Hereford stay in 11th but lose ground on the play-offs whilst Scunthorpe remain in second.

Paul Caddis made two changes to the side that beat Banbury with Yusifu Ceesay and Lawson D’Ath coming in for Jason Cowley and Dominic McHale.

Jimmy Dean also made two alterations to the side that won away to Southport with Roberts and Jacob Butterfield replacing Beestin and McAlinden.

In the 21st minute, the Bulls had their first big chance of the game when an Alex Babos free kick found Andy Williams inside the box who swivelled and got a shot off only for Ross Fitzsimons to produce a fine save.

After a fast start, the match quietened down a bit until a long ball forward from the keeper found Dion Sembie-Ferris just inside the box who turned and fired narrowly wide of the post.

Hereford took the lead in the 38th minute when a short corner was played to Babos, he then whipped the ball in first time and found the head of substitute Tope Obadeyi who guided it into the back of the net.

That was the final action of the first half meaning that Caddis’ side went into the break 1-0 up.

The hosts equalised early on in the second 45 when a quick throw from Whitehall found Roberts in behind who slotted the ball past Curtis Pond and into the bottom corner.

Just three minutes later Dean’s side scored again after Pond fantastically tipped a Roberts free-kick onto the bar and back into play where Kouogun was first to the rebound to head home.

Scunthorpe continued to dominate in the 59th minute when Whitehall played Roberts in behind, the winger attempted to chip the ball over Hereford’s number one but the effort went over the bar.

Just three minutes later the home side came close once again when Tom Pugh chipped the ball to the back post where substitute Kai Corbett headed it into Lewis Hudson and off the post.

In the 66th minute, both assistant managers were shown red after an altercation in the dugouts.

After a quiet twenty minutes, Hereford were awarded a free kick in a dangerous area just outside the box which Cowley fired over the bar.

Then in the 88th minute, Butterfield slipped in McAlinden on the left hand side who fired the ball past Pond and into the bottom corner.

Just as the game looked to be over Beestin fired a screamer into the top left corner from 25 yards out meaning that the game finished 4-1.
