Hereford were knocked out of the FA Trophy with a 4-3 defeat on penalties after a 2-2 draw at home to AFC Fylde.

Danny Ormerod converted a penalty on the half-hour mark to give the visitors the lead, before Max Taylor scored from a corner to make it two.

Lawson D’Ath pulled one back within a minute of the second half, with Lewis Hudson grabbing a late equaliser to take the game to penalties, where the away side eventually secured their place in the fifth round.

Paul Caddis made three changes from the side that drew with Merthyr, as D’Ath and new signings Keziah Martin and Justin Donawa replaced the cup-tied Harley Hamilton, Matt Richards and I-Lani Edwards, the latter two have since departed the club.

Craig Mahon made four alterations to the team that beat Bedford, with Patrick Boyes, Lincoln McFayden, Danny Mayor and Ryan Colclough coming in for Zac Jones, Ethan Mitchell, George Wilson and Liam Brockbank.

The away side had the first chance of the game in the 10th minute when Luca Thomas cut inside and curled a fantastic effort past Theo Richardson, but onto the bar.

Four minutes later, Gus Mafuta won the ball in the middle of the pitch and fed it to Jaiden White, who cut inside well before he fired his shot over.

Fylde had a spell of dominance around the 20-minute mark, with a number of set pieces and efforts on goal, which ended with Tom Whelan fizzing an effort narrowly past the post.

On the half-hour mark, the Coasters were awarded a penalty for a handball by Mafuta, which was converted by Ormerod to give the visitors the lead.

Whelan came close in the 37th minute when he tried to bend an effort into the far corner, but Richardson tipped it around the post and out.

Mahon’s side then doubled their lead from the resulting corner, with Taylor flicking the ball with his right foot into the top corner.

That proved to be the final action of the first half, which meant that the visitors led 2-0 at the break.

Hereford got the second 45 off to a perfect start when, less than a minute in, Keenan Quansah played a perfect through ball to D’Ath, who calmly slotted it past Boyes to pull one back.

The second half quietened down after a lively start, with neither side creating anything of note.

That was until the 60th minute, when Donawa brilliantly brought down a long ball and drove into the Fylde box, only for his shot to be saved by the keeper.

Caddis’ side kept up the pressure seven minutes later, with Martin firing narrowly wide from the edge of the box.

In the 74th minute, D’Ath connected exceptionally with a volley from inside the box, which forced a fantastic save out of Boyes.

From the following corner, the ball fell to Donawa, who unleashed an equally spectacular bicycle kick that ricocheted off the bar.

Hereford equalised in the 88th minute when Kyle Howkins saw a header cleared off the line, but only as far as Hudson, who calmly slotted home.

That was the final action of the 90 minutes, which meant that it finished 2-2 and went to penalties.

The penalty shoot-out finished 4-3 to Fylde, with Remaye Campbel and D’Ath missing for the Bulls, bringing their FA Trophy run to an end.
