Hereford fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Southport.

The away side took the lead after 30 minutes through Danny Lloyd, before Jordan Slew made it two just before half-time.

Harley Hamilton then pulled one back in the 85th minute, but it was too little too late.

After the loss, the Bulls remained in 19th whilst the Sandgrounders climbed to 21st.

Paul Caddis made two changes to the side that lost to Oxford City, with Aaron Skinner and Lawson D’Ath coming in for Michael Parker and Charlie Cooper.

Neil Danns made just one alteration to the team that beat Buxton, with Dan Pike replaced by Teddy Lavelle.

Hereford had an early chance in the first minute when D’Ath threaded a through ball to Sam Osborne, who forced a save out of Chris Renshaw.

The game then quietened down with neither side creating anything until the 16th minute when Jordan Slew headed the ball down for Adrien Thibaut, but Theo Richardson got to it just before him.

Southport then took the lead on the half-hour mark when Lloyd looped a corner over the head of Richardson and into the back of the net.

In the 36th minute, the Sandgrounders found themselves down to 10 men when Callum Edwards was sent off after he was given a second yellow card for a push on Lewis Hudson.

On the cusp of half-time, the visitors doubled their lead when Slew beat Skinner for pace and slotted it past Richardson.

That was the final action of the first half, which left it 0-2 at the break.

The second half got off to a quiet start with neither side creating anything until the 57th minute when Hudson looked to drill the ball across goal from a tight angle, but Renshaw got a foot to it to deny him.

Hereford continued to control possession and looked for a way to break down the away side, but they defended well.

After another quiet period, in the 80th minute, Omari Sterling-James delivered a dangerous corner into the box, which was cleared off the line by a Southport defender.

Caddis’ side kept up the pressure two minutes later when Eno Nto cut the back ball for Remaye Campbell inside the box, but the number nine blazed his effort over the bar.

In the 85th minute, Hamilton pulled one back for the Bulls when his header from a corner was deflected past Renshaw and into the back of the net.

Hereford came close to getting an equaliser when there was a goal-line scramble following a corner, but the visitors were able to get it away.

That was the final action of the game, which meant that it finished 2-1.
