The home side took the lead in the 35th minute through Glen Taylor before Dan Rowe made it two just before half-time, which was the final goal of the game.

Paul Caddis handed debuts to six new signings in his first starting XI of the season, with another four on the bench and Aaron Skinner wearing the armband.

Graeme Lee made two changes from his final pre-season lineup, bringing in former Premier League striker Gary Madine for his debut.

The Bulls got off to a bright start in the first 10 minutes, enjoying plenty of possession and sending crosses into the box, but without troubling the keeper.

Spennymoor came close in the 15th minute when Matty Dolan forced a good save out of Theo Richardson from a free-kick on the edge of the area.

Hereford’s number one was tested again from a set piece 11 minutes later, this time a corner, when a header from Rob Ramshaw compelled Richardson into a fine save.

Caddis’ side went close on the half-hour when Eno Nto’s header was palmed away by Brad James before the danger was cleared.

The hosts broke the deadlock in the 35th minute when Mackenzie Heaney slid Taylor in down the left, he then drove into the box and drilled his shot past Richardson.

Hereford almost hit back instantly when Sam Osborne unleashed a long-range strike that James kept out with an excellent stop.

The hosts doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time when a teasing delivery into the box caused panic in the Bulls’ defence, the loose ball then fell to Rowe, who smashed it home.

That was the final action of the first half which meant it was 2-0 going into the break.

Spennymoor had an early opportunity in the second 45 when the ball dropped to Corey McKeown, who dragged his shot wide.

Aside from that early chance, the second half began quietly, with both sides struggling to carve out clear opportunities.

The home side continued to dominate proceedings without troubling Richardson.

Hereford grew back into the game and came close in the 73rd minute when a cross from Skinner found the head of Nto, but his header was just over the bar.

In the 85th minute, the Bulls were caught on the break when Taylor fed Ramshaw, who found Junior Mondal, but he dragged his shot wide.

That was the final action of the game, which meant that it finished 2-0.
