Today (Saturday 8th March) marks International Women’s Day – A day where we can celebrate the fantastic work women do to help Hereford FC thrive.
From stadium maintenance and matchday volunteering to members of staff and directors, women play a vital role in helping our club run on a day-to-day basis.
We spoke to Yssie, our Community Engagement Manager, about the fantastic work she does in the community to help get young girls enjoying sport.
“Coaching in schools is essential to provide all young people with equal opportunities for participation. Being able to work with young girls in schools has been a rewarding experience as I see their confidence grow as athletes and individuals. It increases the visibility of female coaches and footballers, demonstrating that they could do what I do, too.
“Football teaches them teamwork, resilience and the power of believing in themselves. Women’s football is growing, and I am proud to be on this journey of helping to break down barriers, challenge stereotypes and inspire the next generation of females who feel they can pursue their passion for football!”
Not only is Yssie our Community Engagement Manager, she plays for Hereford FC Women:
“As a current player of Hereford FC Women, but someone who has been playing since the age of 6, I have faced challenges, overcome obstacles and learned so much along the way!
“On International Women’s Day, I feel it’s necessary to take a moment to reflect on the power of the sport, the resilience of women in football and the visibility that has been achieved so far. I hope, but I’m sure, the future will be one where young girls everywhere can look at women’s football and see a path forward to dream, play and succeed without limits!”
