Hi All,
First and foremost let’s address the elephant in the room.
Yesterday the performance and most importantly the result wasn’t acceptable. Congratulations to Brentwood Town and I wish them all the best.
The result yesterday was all on me. I let the players down as I wasn’t able to stand on the touchline and fight with them. I am still learning and my discipline simply has to improve. I take accountability on all fronts of my life and won’t shy away on this occasion. I played over 400 games as a player and was never once sent off or suspended in my career, but in my short time as a young manager I’ve had too many suspensions and I have let the players down.
All criticism and blame from yesterday lies at my doorstep. The buck stops with me as the manager of the football club and in life we are all happy to take the plaudits when they come, but I have been at some highly energised supported football clubs and criticism is part of the game which I will take on the chin.
Moving on and hopefully by the end of the year we will have some really important players back for us.
Aaron Skinner – Skins will attend a week of full rehab at St George’s Park as part of The PFA’s excellent membership scheme where he will have access to the best possible facilities in the country.
Preston Bitemo – Preston is back on the training pitch doing pitch rehab with the medical team after a stress fracture and will be due to join the squad in the coming weeks.
Aaron Chapman – Chappy stepped on the pitch again for the first time yesterday and did some rehab with our medical team and we will monitor how he reacts over the coming weeks.
Sam Robinson – Sammy has stepped up his rehab and he is another one who we will see how he reacts to the work he’s been given.
Jason Cowley has played 105 mins in 16 weeks and trained 3 times. The decision to not bring him on the pitch yesterday was a decision made by me.
Cowls is a player that is desperate to play every minute of every game and it’s a decision I made as manager and I will be judged on that through results. The method behind it was down to the fact he has played such short minutes in such a long time and Cowls is a vitally important player to us and one I want to give the best possible chance to be available long term. Short term pain for long term gain.
Moving forward I can’t dwell on what’s happened and it’s important for me to now pick everyone up and get back to focusing on our league campaign where the players have put us in a brilliant position.
They have put us in the top half of a really tough league and I am extremely proud of where we are – ahead of the record points tally of last season – and our aim is to continue to progress to be the very best we can with what we have.
Rest assured we will have more bad moments as well as more good and indifferent moments. That’s football and it’s important we try and find a consistency in our performances and most importantly our results.
Two of our last three home league fixtures have seen us win 3-0 and 4-0 respectively and we have to fight to find those results consistently.
Thank you for your continued support of my players and I ask you continue to do that and collectively move on and roar us to a positive final 6 months of the season.
Your support is vital for us and hopefully we can send you home smiling more often than not. I am still learning and won’t stop learning as a young manager at 36 and from time to time I need your help getting us over the line. I cannot fault your support home or away. It has been a huge source of comfort for my staff and players.
What’s happened has happened and we can’t turn back the clock sadly. We can only make tomorrow better by being positive and forward thinking today. We will attack Tuesday head on and do our best to get a positive result against a tough Scarborough team.
Hope to see you on Tuesday night bringing lots of positivity with you, but I understand it’s up to me to give you something to shout about.
We are currently 6th in the league following a record points tally in the NLN last season, so let’s stay positive.
