Hereford fell to a 0-1 defeat at home to Needham Market.

Kevin Horlock’s side took the lead in the 38th minute through Jamie McGrath which was the only goal of the game.

The loss drops the Bulls down to fifth whilst the Marketmen move up to 20th.

Paul Caddis made four changes to the side that won away at Brackley with Cosmos Matwasa, Chay Tilt, Preston Bitemo and Montel Gibson replacing Aaron Skinner, Yusifu Ceesay, Lawson D’Ath and Ahkeem Rose.

Horlock made just the one alteration to the team that beat Warrington with Jacob Lay coming in for Adam Mills.

The game got off to a quiet start with Hereford dominating possession in the early stages but they were unable to break down a resolute Needham Market defence.

Tilt was the first from either team to test the keeper in the 20th minute when he connected with the ball well from range, forcing Danny Cullum into a good save.

Five minutes later Gibson was played in down the right wing, he then cut the ball back for Andy Williams who tried to glance it into the far corner but the keeper made another good stop.

Caddis’ side kept up the pressure moments later when Lewis Hudson delivered a brilliant cross into Matwasa who tried to head it across for Williams but it just evaded the striker.

In the 38th minute, the away side took the lead when Lay received a cross-field ball on the right wing, he then fired the ball into the box where McGrath was on hand to convert.

Hereford nearly had the equaliser just three minutes later when Alex Babos found Andy Williams with a cross but his header was once again saved by Cullum low to his left.

That brought the first half to a close meaning that the Bulls trailed 0-1 going into the break.

Babos nearly produced the spectacular early on in the second 45 when Sammy Robinson fired the ball into his feet, the Welshman took a fantastic first touch and hit the ball on the swivel but it was just wide.

The Marketmen came close in the 51st minute when the ball was delivered into the box from the right wing to Lay at the back post who could not keep his shot down.

Horlock’s side kept up the pressure when a brilliant cross into the box found the head of McGrath who put it narrowly wide.

The side from Suffolk then came even closer when a strike from range rattled the post.

In the 63rd minute, Needham Market were awarded a penalty when Aaron Chapman came off his line and fouled an opposing forward, Dan Morphew then took the spot kick which was saved by Hereford’s number one low to his left.

After a quiet 15 minutes, the home side came close when a Babos long throw dropped to substitute Rose who struck the ball well but it was blocked by a defender.

Straight after that, the Bulls threatened to equalise again when a ball into the box from the right wing found Ceesay who volleyed it just wide.

The game fizzled out afterwards meaning that it finished 0-1.
